Work by Gottfried Helnwein

Image 1

This image shows a women's face close up with a figure, most likely a man, climbing her face. The women's face is very white, while her eyes are bright greens and blues. I think this image is just for artistic reasons and not commentary, even though it could mean many things. This image is photoshopped because of the size of the man in the picture and they probably photoshopped the women's face to be whiter. I'm not sure what the meaning of this image could be, but it could be a commentary about society and how men are metaphorically climbing women? I think the photographer's intent was to make a visually appealing image with meaning behind it. This image also could just be a person painting this image on a wall and the man could be the one doing it. That would mean this image is extremely big compared to the man. The man could be Gottfried Helnwein himself or it could represent something.

This image has changed my opinion of image 1. Originally, I thought Image 1 was of a man climbing up a women but now I see it was just a person painting the image of a child. The place the image of the child is but is in a very industrial area that probably is in a low income area. It doesn't seem like a place that would have nice artwork like that, and it seems very rundown. The image is extremely big compared to the people around it. This is very eye-catching and noticeable. Because it's so big, it probably was sliced up then put together at the site, although they did it very well so i can't notice if it is or not. The look on the Girl's face seems sad and Melancholy and her face is very pale. The intended audience is just normal people who happen to see the image. "The Last Girl" probably has to do with the location, and how desolate it is. It might be saying "imagine if your child was here, how would you feel?", and this might be trying to get people to clean up the area into something more safe.
